Victorian TAFE International is committed to the protection of private information that it gathers from those who contact us. We gather this information solely to manage the membership of the VTI and the services that we provide to members. We will not collect information that does not pertain to this. In order to serve the purposes of the Association – providing advice to government and promoting the TAFE brand – and to improve the service we provide, the VTI may use collected information for evaluation and research purposes.
We acknowledge the trust that is given to us when we collect information and we will do all in our power to ensure that we protect privacy. The Board of VTI is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information that the organisation collects, holds and administers.
VTI will only collect information that is necessary for one or more of our legitimate services, functions or activities. We will notify stakeholders about why we collect the information and how it is administered and we will notify stakeholders that this information is accessible to them.
Use and Disclosure
The VTI will not disclose individual information to third parties without seeking express permission first. You will always be able to request access to the information the VTI holds about you. We will only use or disclose information for the primary purpose for which it was collected or a directly related secondary purpose. For other uses we will obtain consent from the affected person.
We will not sell, trade or distribute your contact details to any other person or organisation for purposes of direct marketing.
We will co-operate with requests from statutory or other bodies for information you have provided to us where the request is authorised by a relevant Federal or State Act.
Whenever you visit our website our web host, or internet service provider, may record general information for evaluation and review. As with most websites, this information is likely to include:
Your internet address - including your domain name and your personal internet address
The pages you visited and any information and documentation you downloaded
The website you were looking at immediately preceding your visit to the VTI site
Basic information about the types of computer operating system and web browser you are using
The date and time of your visit
This information is used for statistical analysis only as a means of updating and improving our website. It will not be used to identify you or your internet viewing activity.
Our web site offers an email discussion list. If you email us your email address can be added to this list but you will always be given the clear opportunity to "opt out" of this list. Your email address will not be disclosed to third parties and will be stored securely.
We will take reasonable steps to ensure the information we collect is accurate, complete, up-to-date, and relevant to the functions we perform.
Data Security and Retention
We will ensure that all of your private information, whether in hard copy or electronic versions, is held in a secure fashion.
We will safeguard the information we collect and store against misuse, loss, unauthorised access and modification. Only staff, web master, auditor and authorised volunteers (Board members) will have access to your information. We will destroy or remove personal identification from it when there is no longer an apparent use for it. If you ask us to do it, we will destroy or remove identification from your private information at any time.
Access and Correction
VTI will ensure that individuals have a right to seek access to information held about them and to correct it if it is inaccurate, incomplete, misleading or not up to date.
VTI will give stakeholders the option of not identifying themselves when completing evaluation forms or opinion surveys.
Making information available to other service providers
VTi can only release personal information about a person with that person’s expressed permission. For personal information to be released, the person concerned must sign a release form. VTI can release information to third parties where the person concerned requests it.
Complaints About Privacy
If you think there has been a breach of your privacy by VTI you have the right to make a complaint to us. In the first instance, your complaint should be addressed to the Public Officer at VTI. The Public Officer will investigate and respond to your complaint within an appropriate time. If the matter cannot be satisfactorily resolved, you have the right to complain to the appropriate Privacy Commissioner for resolution.
